Our approach
How we work in this area
Getting older doesn't mean accepting the loss of movement. Much of the strength and balance lost with age responds very well to guided exercise, at any stage of life.
The focus here is functional: getting up from a chair without support, stepping onto a bus, walking on the sand, showering safely. Each goal is chosen together with the patient and their family, and the pace respects any other health conditions the person has.
What we treat
Common reasons people come to us
Fall prevention
Balance, reaction and gait training, which is the most effective way to reduce the risk of fractures.
Fracture recovery
Rehabilitation after femur, hip, wrist and spine fractures, including after surgery.
Knee and hip osteoarthritis
Strengthening and mobility to reduce pain and either delay surgery or prepare for it.
Loss of strength
Working against sarcopenia, the loss of muscle mass that makes everything feel like an effort.
Difficulty walking
Gait training and guidance on using a cane or walker when needed.
After a hospital stay
Rebuilding fitness after long periods in bed or in hospital.
Step by step
How treatment works
Initial assessment
The first session is a conversation and an exam. We get to know your complaint, your history, any imaging tests you have and what you need to get back to doing in your daily life.
Treatment plan
Based on the assessment, we put together a plan with clear goals, setting how often you'll come in and what you'll also do at home.
Supervised sessions
Every session takes place with a physiotherapist present, correcting your technique and adjusting the load according to how you respond to treatment.
Reassessment
Every so often we measure pain, strength and movement again to see whether the plan is working or needs to change.
Frequently asked questions
Questions we often hear
My mother has trouble getting around. Will she be able to get to the clinic?
The clinic has a ramp at the entrance, an accessible bathroom and parking out front, so it can be reached in a wheelchair or with a walker. If there's a specific limitation, let us know in advance and we'll arrange the appointment accordingly.
Can older people with high blood pressure or diabetes exercise?
Yes, and they usually should. What changes is the intensity and the monitoring during the session. Bring your list of medications to the assessment.
Can family members come along?
Yes, and it helps a lot, especially so they can learn the exercises that will be done at home.
